The Dayton Hamvention is the largest gather of radio amateurs anywhere in the world. It is held near Dayton Ohio, USA at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center.
The Hamvention is an annual event that brings together many hams, suppliers, speakers and many other people.
Since 1952 Hamvention has been sponsored by Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA). It started as a small event, and has grown each year so that it now attracts many thousands of visitors each year. Since 2017 the Hamvention has been held in the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center, having transferred f rom the Hara Arena that was re-developed.
Not only is there a huge amount of exhibition space for manufacturers, suppliers, organisations and the like, but there is also a flourishing flea market where many smaller traders and individuals have many bargains on offer. Over the years, the size of the Hamvention has meant that it has been the event where many new products are launched.
The Hamvention also has a comprehensive lecture programme, and in addition to this, there are a number of satellite events that are held around it. The QRP ARCI organises its FDIM (Four Days In May) event to coincide so that QRP enthusiasts need only travel to one event to take advantage of the two.
The lectures that are set up attract many radio amateurs and they also cover a very broad range of topics - every aspect of amateur radio is covered. The event naturally attracts world class speakers, so you can be sure of some inspiring and interesting talks about what is happening in ham radio and the leading edge technology in the hobby.
In view of its size, the Dayton Hamvention is often the platform used by many manufacturers to launch new products. With the buzz around the event, it makes an ideal time for new product launches.
